Can I add a face plate to any single handle faucet? I have three holes in my sink, but want to buy a new single handle goose neck faucet. All I see do not have a face plate and there is no indication that one can be added.

navi replied: "eNot sure what you mean but if there is not one with tap there probably won't be one. There certainly wont be one to cover three holes but single hole infills are available from plumbing shops. Thay are in chrome finish"

Mr Phoenix replied: "I am guessing you have a lav sink with 8" centers? If so you need to replace the lav sink. Almost all kitchen sinks have 3 holes, where a single lever or 2 handle faucet work."

My bathroom faucet is dripping. How do I install a washer in a single handle faucet? I have those faucets which have just one spigot and a round plastic turn on thingy. It's dripping and I need to instal a new washer. But How? Can anyone help?

Barkley Hound replied: "Those types of faucets do not have washers, they use o-rings. If there is no obvious way to dissemble it, there may be no way to repair it. A leak in a washerless faucet usually indicates that the working parts need replacing. Often, prepackaged repair kits are available. Kits may contain all the necessary parts, or may include only the specific parts that need replacing. Follow the instructions for installing the replacement parts. Washerless faucets on tubs and showers are repaired in the same way as those on sink and washbasins."

LT replied: "You can pry off the plastic cover and remove the knob. You should see from there how to remove the handle. ( be sure to shut off your water first) There should be some kind of washer or "0" ring, so you will need the correct one. Put back together... and if it doesn't leak you did a good job. Now from my experience.. just replace the faucet. Any like that I have repaired usually starts leaking again in about a year or less, and I end up just replacing the faucet with a good one and no more problems for 5 + years, depending on how good of a faucet I buy. A good one will last many years."

Thomas S replied: "Go to Peerless.com On their web site they show very good instructions on how to repair your faucet. If you have a Moen, try moen.com. Peerless makes for a few companies though and the instructions they show are really first rate."

sensible_man replied: "Turn off the water supply valves under the sink. Look around the handle for an allen screw. This usually holds the handle on. Remove the handle and you should see an arm and probably a nut holding it onto the base of the faucet. (May be a large nut that the arm sticks up through and screws on) You may have "O" rings or you may have a cartridge. You will need to match whichever you have and replace it. If it is a cartridge, mark the top center of it so you install the new cartridge in the same orientation."

Will i need to remove the wall to replace shower/tub single handle faucet? I need to replace the spout and the handle on will i need to go into the wall to do this the shower head is fine the knob that you pull to divert the water to the shower is stuck so we can't take a bath and the handle is worn out...so do i need to go into the wall to do this...need to know before i buy fixtures.. would it be better to hire someone to do this???? how do i remove the spout i tried turning it i thought it just screwed on ?/

MithrilHawk replied: "you need to turn the water off and start unscrewing the fixtures. Then take those to a plumbing supply house and see what they have to replace them with. you won't need to replace the wall. It wouldn't hurt to hire a pro the first time."

F. Perdurabo replied: "Yes - get someone to do it. At the least you will have to bust out the tile and hardybacker around the pipe itself, but there are ALWAYS complications (I did my own bathroom and was a very frustrated camper). It may seem expensive but there's a trade-off in time and frustration. FP"

KAO replied: "Last I had this done, they went into the wall. Your time and $ are better spent to hire a good professional plumber."

Skyhawk replied: "The spout is a 'screw-on' fixture. That will be the easy part. (DOn't forget to use teflon tape on the threads.) The mixing and control valve is another issue. If you can get the same exact valve, you may be able to switch out the valve. If not, and if you don't have access to the pipes, you would have to go into the wall. My advice: Unless you've done this before, hire a professional plumber. It will be quicker and less of a hassle."

Ben D replied: "The spout should just unscrew from the wall, you will need some leverage to get it to turn. Replacing the shower control will be easier if you have access to the back, but it can be done from the shower side. This might be a job that is best left to a professional. Another option, if you know the manufacturer and the model, a plumbing supply store may have a rebuild kit which will provide you with all new internal parts and handle. This is a much easier option if it is available."

Ginger replied: "I subscribe to angieslist.com to get recommendations for plumbers. Mine just took out the faucet, but sometimes it is necessary to go into the wall. I would definitely hire someone to tackle this job unless you are very experienced."

mrrosema replied: "usually the spout is just screwed on, but would need a padded monkey wrench or similar to turn. You may have to pry the dime sized cover in the center of the bath/shower diverter and unscrew the few screws on the face of the diverter. there are a lot of models out there so you may want to get a plumber in if you want this done quick. otherwise you can shut off water, take pieces apart and bring it to a hardware/home improvement store for help. If this is what i think it is a novice could replace the pieces in about 1/2 hour... make sure to remember or write down how things go together as you take it a part if you DIY"

how do i fix my bath tubs single handle faucet? i cant get the water to turn off. i turn it left, right and it refuses to turn off. i know i can turn off the main valve but, i want to know why this is happening and if it can be fixed, or if it needs a new one.

bestpoolcare replied: "screw it on"

sdvond@sbcglobal.net replied: "All of the home supply stores have replacement parts for faucets. Take apart the faucet and take it to the store. Get all new washers, seats, gaskets, and any other rubber parts. Replace everything and put back together."

loverboy408us replied: "sounds like you need a new cartridge or just to rebuild it. if you take a picture of it I can help you on how to rebuild it."

Vivid C replied: "Single handle faucets do not have seats or stems or washers, thats kind of the whole point of making them single handle. But to answer your question specifically, either two things have happened. 1. your stem broke inside the valve. 2. your plastic "guide bracket" behind the handle broke. or is improperly installed. here's how to find out. turn off the water to house. take the handle off the faucet. youre going to need a small allen or hex head wrench or a tiny flat head screwdriver. the "set screw" holds the handle over the valve stem securely by a small screw. once that is removed, turn the water back on and see if you can get it to the "off" position. if you cant, turn off water again. remove the cartridge from the center of your valve, take it to supply house (with water still off) match it up, bring home and replace, turn water on, make sure it shuts off, then put handle back on."

dartiator63 replied: "Most likely the nut on the back of the valve stem has come off. This is common on Mixit brand valves. You can get a replacement stem and handles at Home depot (they are cheaper than Lowes on this part) for around 10 dollars. Follow the instructions, easy to do. good luck. Chris"

pinspeed1 replied: "remove the handle or take a picture of it and take it to your local plumbing supply house for identification. relay back here and we'll all help you from there. w/o a brand name, it's very hard to help you."

Should I repair the leaking Moen single handle faucet before I put the sink in place if "leaks a little"? I was given a nice cast iron sink. I am trying to decide to repair or replace the leaking faucet or just put it in and see how much it leaks. Should I buy a new faucet? What type and make? This would be my first time, I believe to put in a sink of this size. A new one could cost over $100.

tzweeb replied: "of course you should fix the leak before you install the sink. its much easier to work on out of the cabinet and why would you want to ruin all your hard work when it does leak? if you dont have the special cartridge puller then it may be hard to repair this type of faucet. you might want to replace it now and be happy with your work for many years to come."

cowboydoc replied: "Have you heard the one about the little Dutch boy and his finger in the dike ? fix it."

I have a single handle faucet in my kitchen, cold water comes out but when I turn to the hot water no water ? The last couple days has been below 10 degrees.

Pengy replied: "Pipes could be frozen when they thaw they could most likely burst"

httnmrtt replied: "The kitchen sink faces an outside wall and your hot water pipe is frozen. Open the cabinets under the sink so warm air can circulate and thaw the pipe. You can help it along with a small box fan or hair dryer."

D2 replied: "either thesupply line is froze or you may have a busted pipe somewhere"

Jake S replied: "While the pipe may be frozen you should remove the handle and make sure that no trash or sediment is blocking the hot water side of the faucet."

Help! I have installed a new shower unit with a Delta single handle faucet.? Once I turn the shower handle, I notice that it turns a couple of inches or so before water comes from the shower head. Then, I only get lukewarm water. I have taken the handle apart and have tried adjusting the plastic piece within the handle. No luck. Anyone have any suggestion as to what may be the problem. Thanks

GG replied: "It sounds like the parts inside the faucet have maybe melted or have been damaged."

Reid S replied: "you need to take it apart and move the inner dial (the one that physicaly moves the valve) either 1/4 or 1/2 of the diameter of the actual dial so it catches lever earlier therefore turning your water on sooner and warmer. Just a slight adjustment should fix your prob. if that dosent work you have a valve problem"

Johnny Apollo replied: "You're sure that the hot water is indeed turned all the way back on...? Are you sure that you didn't melt anything when you soldered? You wouldn't be the first one to buy & install a defective Delta product btw...If the other suggestion does not work then there is no recourse but to disassemble return and try again...Been there."

Corky R replied: "There's a strong possibility that you just haven't read and or followed the instructions that come along with the shower fixture for adjusting the amount of hot water you want. The new fixtures are, by law, manufactured with an antiscald feature that must be adjusted when it's installed, to the particular customer's tastes. Some people like a nice HOT shower, others like it lukewarm. The antiscald feature is for young children, and older folks who don't have the sensitivity in their skin cells any more to tell them that the water that's hitting them is hot enough to scald them. There should be explicit instructions with pictures to show how to adjust the toothed gear inside the fixture. Be sure to read carefully. If that doesn't do the trick, then you have a bad valve."

We are in process of upgrading our 30 yr old condo and want to use single handle faucet in the kitchen.? One of the neighbors told me that those can cause water pressure problems in other units. Does anyone know about this?

donamkuhn replied: "Never heard of that, don't u all have separate utilities?"

annyda replied: "never heard of that u r still only using same amount of water."

pickmefirstplz replied: "the faucet is at the end of the run no way can it cause water pressure problems in other units"

Bub replied: "That is BS, sounds like someone is jealous you are upgrading?"
